Wired UK: MPs slam UK data regulator for failing to protect people’s rights

I spoke with Wired about the domestic and international policy implications of the UK’s data protection regulator being physically absent and structurally passive.

The ICO needs to remember that its job as a watchdog is to be an adversarial law enforcement body, not a soft-focus tech ethics and children’s wellbeing think tank, much less a “critical friend”. There’s an awful lot riding on them getting it right.

There is, needless to say, a lot more going on with this story than has been disclosed publicly. More fool all the technosolutionists who thought that this whole thing was a silly drama about an attack on remote working.
