Every so often you read something that grants a name and a coherent explanation to a problem you’ve known was there all along, but could never clearly define. Yesterday was that case.
IWDRO, a private for-profit business under peculiar ownership, has illegally claimed to be the official regulator of the web design and development fields.
No one is saying that professional organisation will be easy, or quick, or universally accepted. It’s not the overnight solution to our industry’s problems. But with each passing month I am more convinced that it is the key to our industry’s survival.
On Burns Night, it’s good to see ourselves – the web industry – “as ithers see us.” They’ve got us all wrong.
So here it is, then, the topic that is apparently too dangerous to discuss: the future of the web profession itself.
